unamused g is unamused

Today, Grayson had his six-month doctor checkup. He's 27 1/2 inches (80-90th%) and 18 1/2 lbs (65-75%). He shot up in the percentile for height after being in the 50% since he was pretty much born. I thought he had longer legs. He was born with short stub legs, and then suddenly whoosh they popped out there.

He got all of his regular shots, which always breaks my heart. He did really good though. Except later today he was obviously hurting a lot. I tried everything to get him to calm down. A dose of Tylenol helped, but only after I gave him back the boob and he succumbed to sleep again.  We put him to bed a little earlier, so I'm hoping he gets some much-needed rest.

I feel so bad because the middle finger of his left hand has a sore place on the tip that has gotten infected. We had just noticed it right before the appointment so the doc looked at it. I had noticed it was red and swollen a few days ago, but left it alone to see if it got worse. And it did. It looks awful. The doc said it was because he was chewing on his hands a lot; his thumb looks like it's heading in the same direction. So we have to put some antibiotic cream on it and hope it gets better or he has to have oral antibiotics. I definitely want to stay away from those! They make me nervous with the threat of thrust, diaper rash, and upset stomach on G's part.

Then, as the hubs was reading to him a little before bed, G got a paper cut that bled when he grabbed the book! Right near the infected spot on his poor injured finger! I felt so horrible. Poor fingy. He screamed bloody murder, too.

I took the picture below a few days ago, but I think it sums up G's day perfectly.

exhausting day of football

The hubs and I went to the Titans game against the Jaguars, while my mom babysat g. We should've crushed them like we did the last time earlier in the season. Instead, we rather sucked. Our season has gone downhill rather fast. I'm not a huge fan of football, but I do follow the Titans and our rivals. It was my first football game, pro or otherwise.

Ah well. It was certainly an experience!

For one, it was the coldest day of the season thus far. Only a high of 37. OMG cold. Add a brisk wind, an overcast sky, and SNOW (yes, snow, which didn't stick but that's beside the point), and you had quite miserable circumstances for an outdoor football game. On top of all that, our tickets, while on the 40-yard-line, would rather high up.

So there you go. It was cold. I had on two pairs of socks, a tank top, two long sleeve shirts, a sweatshirt, a coat, a hat, a snarf over my face, and mittens. I had to make the hubs bring a warm hat and scarf, and he was really glad he did. I also had told him that I wouldn't share my sleeping bag, but he still refused to bring his own. I did end up sharing, though, because I felt bad it was so cold.

Oh, and the Titans sucked.

In any case, it was really fun! It's quite an experience to actually be there in stands, cheering (and booing) your team along with thousands of others.

I came home and cranked the heat up really high, piled on some blankets, and snuggled a tired baby against my belly for warmth. I can't wait to jump into bed with my pillowy covers and go to sleep at 8pm. That's gonna be so AWESOME.

happy 6 months, baby g

Someone was tired one morning during Thanksgiving break. His sleep was all wonky during the holiday, as he didn't want to go to bed at his normal time. He hadn't stayed up that late since he was less than two months old, the silly baby. But things were happening in the house, and he had to know it ALL. He probably went back to bed rather quickly this morning.

See? So sleepy.

What? I can stay up. I don't need no stinkin' naps.

I'm awake. Really.

Yaaaah. See? AWAKE.

Dear Grayson, today is your sixth month birthday. We're halfway to one full year. I can't believe six months have already passed. You have changed so much! I can't wait to see what kind of new tricks you in the next six. You make me laugh every day.

You've really been working on your sitting and talking skills. You love to sit up on your own. I'll sit behind you because you'll topple over at any moment, but you've gotten fantastic at sitting from almost a minute all by yourself. Usually you get distracted by something or you'll get all excited and start to flail too much, so you'll fall over. Falling doesn't seem to bother you unless you end up on your tummy. You still oh so hate tummy time. I highly doubt you'll learn to crawl unless you just someone magically and spontaneously learn all by yourself.

This month you learned how to screech. So that's your favorite thing to do. It makes me both cringe and burst out laughing. I can't help but smile when you make that awful noise. You're just so darn happy all the time. You still like to do "b" sounds, such as ba, but screeching is your current favorite. You also love to blow raspberries. Sometimes you just end up spitting everywhere, though.

You regressed a little in sleep, and sometimes you wake up a little more often than we'd like. But this past week you slept from 8-6 three nights in a row. So really, who's complaining, right?

Your six-month doctor's appointment is tomorrow, so we'll see how much you weigh and how long you are. You seem so big to me! But when someone else is holding you, you often seem to small. My little/big babycake, I love you so much! Here's to the next six months!
