End of the Year Meme!

I've done this blasted end of year survey for over five years now. So why not post it on the new blog as well? Here's to 2010! The hubs and I are celebrating by laying in bed with our laptops, drinking a riesling that's chilling on ice, about to watch Dragon Ball Z. The whole idea makes me giggle a little too hysterically. It's probably also the glass and a half I've already had.

What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Gave birth to a baby. nothing really competes with that, huh?

Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No resolutions show up around here. I don't really bother.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Meeeeee (see a trend here?)

Did anyone close to you die?
One of my dad's sisters died from cancer. I still can't believe she's gone.

What countries did you visit?
Alas, none

What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A chance to drink alcohol again! I am, in fact, sipping wine at the moment, but I really want the freedom I lacked when I was pregnant and now breastfeeding. I'm ready to have my body back. Sorry, g.

What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 4th, Grayson's birthday

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Pushing a baby out of my vagina. That took two hours. Oh, and showering every day.

What was your biggest failure?
Letting my hormones get the best of me. They're bitches, those hormones.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got pre-eclampsia while pregnant. My blood pressure was 180/110 when I was admitted to the hospital for induction. Definitely a scary time. Plus it took two weeks to go back to normal off medication.

What was the best thing you bought?
Baby clothes. I love me some cuteness.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
My husband, as always. He's often the glue that keeps me together.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
This whole tea-bagging thing makes me want to crawl under the covers and hide. Or stab something.

Where did most of your money go?
Medical bills. Hospitals are expensive!

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Not being pregnant anymore! G sleeping for longer than two hours in a row! Having a drink!

What song will always remind you of 2010?
Nothing, really.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
happier, totally.
b) thinner or fatter?
fatter, but only by about five pounds.
c) richer or poorer?
richer, now that we're not shoveling tons of money into hospital savings.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
traveling. I didn't go anywhere last year, which is really sad. But BUT next year we're going to Gulf Shores and Miami, so there's that.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
whining. bitches, hormones.

How will you be spending Christmas?
We spent Christmas Eve morning at our place, Christmas Eve afternoon at the in-laws, and Christmas with my parents.

Did you fall in love in 2010?
G stole my heart. Sorry, hubs.

What was your favorite TV program?
Glee rocked my socks. Also loved the ending of LOST. Many reality TV shows made me want to throw things at the TV.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No new dislikes.

What was the best book you read?
I unfortunately didn't do a whole lot of reading. Hoping to change that more next year as G sleeps more reliably. I did like The Hunger Games. The hubs read The Hobbit to G-in-the-belly, which really rekindled my love of Tolkien. But I also fell asleep during it a lot. I was soooo tired while pregnant.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Baby music doesn't drive me TOTALLY batty. (Only a little.)

What did you want and get?
A baby. He is awesome.

What did you want and not get?
A new house. Maybe next year?

What was your favorite film of this year?
Hardly saw any movies. I swear I'm going to have more of a life in 2011.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 29. One more year to the big three-oh. Ugh. I woke up too early, spent the day with just G, and the hubs cooked me dinner and brownies.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not worrying so much about money. G went through hundreds of dollars in diapers in those early months because he had to be changed every time he peed. Seriously.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
OMG I'm fat and pregnant. Then, OMG I'm fat and not pregnant. Then, OMG I have giant boobs that don't fit into anything. So my personal fashion concept was mainly to find clothes that fit and didn't make me look like a marshmallow.

What kept you sane?
the hubs. and watching G sleep. love that.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Johnny Depp, as always. I want in his pants.

What political issue stirred you the most?
Health care, again. Gay marriage always pushes my buttons, too. Boo discrimination.

Who did you miss?
Friends. Going to make more of an effort to hang with them as G gets older.

Who was the best new person you met?
No one new. Would love some friends with babies to hang with every so often, share the pain and whatnot.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
Sweet potato makes G gag.

christmas redux

Overall, I'm rather disappointed in myself with how many pictures were taken over the holidays. I really should have picked up the camera more often. Christmas Eve afternoon was spent with the hub's side of the family. No pictures from there really turned out at all, and not near enough pictures were taken. I'm really bummed, but what are you gonna do?

We're so so SO glad we headed down to my parents' a day early, since it did indeed snow on Christmas. In fact, this is what we woke up to Christmas morning. In Alabama, of all places! It was a really wet snow, too, which meant it stuck to everything. Gorgeous.

Despite the fact that it wasn't even quite 7am, I proceeded to wake everyone in the house. Except for my dad, who slept in until closer to 8.

My bro and his girlfriend. Aren't they sickingly cute? We love to make gagging noises behind their backs.

G wasn't quite as giddy this morning, having slept restlessly in the pack n play. Here he is patiently waiting to open more presents.

He loved to stare at their rather large tree.

G's first photo bomb. Sorry, Christina.

That evening we went over to my grandparents' place down the road for even more presents. Mainly it was dirty Santa, and G got to open something. He loves his great-grandpa. They really seem to have bonded.

The cutest pic ever of G and my mom.

Even my bro got to hold a happy g. Uncle love.

A pic off my mom's camera of g and me that morning.

All in all, a fantastic Christmas filled with family. G took it all really well. His worst meltdown was on the way to Alabama after he woke up from a nap in the car. He hasn't been in the car much after dark, so I think it scared him even though I was sitting in the back with him. He was so exhausted from all the excitement that he slept all the way home.

He's been having horrible nights since we got home, however. I really hope he gets back on track. We can't take many more of these nights. Please sleep longer than an hour in a row, G! Pretty please?

grayson's christmas (eve) morning

Grayson says...

On Christmas Eve, mama ran into my room early in the morning screaming something about it being Christmas. Since it was supposed to snow (and oh, it did), we had to head down to Alabama a day early. So we celebrated our family Christmas on the eve instead.

I was all excited because they were all excited. There were smiles all around. I waited patiently with daddy while mama took some pics.

I stuck my tongue out. But not because I was upset.

I just love to blow raspberries! Pfffft!

My stocking captured my attention the most. I <3 my stocking. I bent down really close to get a good look at the contents.

Santa gave me my first Disney movie?

Yay! I was a good boy, huh?

I loved to open my presents, though mama and daddy had to do most of them for me. I really liked to hold them wrapped too. I screamed a lot this morning because I was so excited to get my first presents!

Mama and daddy got me some stacking blocks, a fluffy giraffe, a book, Sophie, a Disney movie, some puffs for when I get older, and some socks (at least they were cute). Santa brought me a biiig present! I loved to stare at it. I can't wait to play with it some more when I get home.

Then, after all that crazy present stuff, I got tired.

Later, we headed to my grandpa's for Christmas with daddy's side of the family. There was lots of Christmas left to go!

Christmas Eve Eve

Twas the night before the night before Christmas...

Our plans this Christmas have had to change a little bit. Originally, we were going to celebrate Christmas Eve with Dave's side of the family in Nashville. Then we'd wake up Christmas morning in our own house and open stockings and presents with just the three of us. After that, we'd drive down to Alabama for Christmas evening with my side of the family.

Apparently, however, Mother Nature is a bitch who wants the first white Christmas in 17 years (and even then it was 3/10th of an inch). Bah humbug. The snow would be all well and good if we weren't going anywhere. In fact, it'd be downright fantastic. But we want to drive 2 hours that day, darn it.

So now we're probably driving down tomorrow evening. Which means we'll get up early (we're always up early), have our Christmas (Eve) morning with the three of us, pack up the car, drive to Dave's dad's house for Christmas there, then drive 2-3 hours to Alabama that evening.

Whew. I'm already exhausted just thinking about it.

But it's G's first Christmas and I'm so freakin' excited I can't stand it. I'm not sure how he'll handle all the fuss. Maybe he'll have a meltdown. That could happen. Or maybe he'll just give me one of these faces.

Maybe it won't be this one. This is about as apathetic as you can get.

Maybe he'll blow some raspberries. He's fond of those lately. Today he started adding some hissing to it. That's an attractive noise, G.

Maybe he'll be too preoccupied with his fingers to notice the flurry of activity around him. He does love those fingers.

Maybe he'll just go blank.

Maybe he'll give me a bit of a deer-in-headlights. Or is that a face of wonderment? Who knows.

Or maybe he'll contemplate how to steal all the presents for himself.

He does like to do the whole staring-down-at-you-from-my-nose face.

Most of all, I hope he smiles. His whole face lights up. His eyes positively smile. My son has the most gorgeous smile in the world.

Not that I'm biased or anything.

I'm off until sometime after Christmas. Then I'll be back with lots of pics of our first Christmas as a family of three!

really? I can go shopping now?

We decided to put G in the shopping cart free of his car seat for the first time since he's getting so good at sitting up. The hubs and I actually went grocery shopping together for the first time since G was born. Aw, grocery picking as a family. It was heaven, really. I hate grocery shopping by myself. Not my favorite activity.

G looks rather apathetic in these pics, but I assure you that he was thrilled. He was even making his little pterodactyl noises by the end of it, which means he'd really loosened up. His head was jerking all over the place as he tried to see everything all at once. We ended up stuffing him in there pretty good with a blanket because he was a bit wobbly, but all in all, he did excellently.

My little boy is such a big boy. Sniff.

He also garnered a bit of attention from a few people while we were there. But how can you resist those chub cheeks, right?

baby's first photo with Santa

I'm so stinkin' excited to finally get g's Santa pic. He did fantastically. She only had to take 3 photos because he smiled so quickly. Of course, putting him on Santa's lap facing backwards helped - g probably never even knew he was being held by a scary bearded dude in red.

grayson says... nom nom nom

Mama, my hands just aren't doing it for me. I wanna nom something else. Who cares that I'm not showing any signs on my gums that I'm teething. Gimme something to chew!

Let's see... There's gotta be something around here. Okay, big orange thing, I try to put you in my mouth, but you're just too low.

I mean, I like to grab at you and all. But that's about it. Sorries.

What about you, spinny thingy? Nah, I can't even grab you.

Hmm, purple star thingy?

Hey Mama, what about this?

No? Okay, movin' on. Sigh.

What about sunshine? I think I sometimes like to mouth the top of this thingy?

Or how about fishy? Oh wait, every time I try to bend down and eat fishy, I hit my nose on something in the way. I just can't figure that out. Why can't I nom fishy?

Come on, Mama, I'm getting desperate here. Can I chew on your finger, maybe?

Oh wait, what's this..?

*lick*

YAY! I found my nom-toy!

NOM nom nom nom nomnomonom. Slobber slobber droooool.

What, mama? Can't a baby nom in peace?

(And yes, he really much prefers to eat the side of the cup rather than the teethers attached to it. Weirdo.)
I'm not a huge fan of asking for stuff like this, but in an effort to get more readers...
